Joseph Allen Pashak

July 14, 1941 - May 4, 2004

Devoted father, proud grandfather and caring citizen died suddenly on May 4th, 2004. Joe was well respected in the community of Port Hardy where he resided for the last 8 years and also served as a Councillor for the District of Port Hardy. Joe is survived by his daughters Shelley and her husband Waring Howe, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Barbara Pashak of Vancouver, BC. and Jodi and her husband Spencer Jeffrey of Delta, BC. Also survived by his brother Barry and sisters Donna, Barbara and Elizabeth, grandchildren Waring and Natalie, Bailey and Reese. Joe started his career as a restauranteur, teacher and business man involved in the development and leasing of shopping centres. He then turned to shopping centre management and became actively involved in the life of the community of Port Hardy. He was instrumental in organizing community events such as Canada Day, Family Fishing Weekend, Indian Summer Days and Filomi Days. He successfully organized the building of the Quadsie Canoe and the relocation of the Big House. Joe took great pride in his ability to foster unity between First Nations and the town people. He was involved with the economic development of the community including fishing, forestry, tourism, offshore oil development and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program. His commitment in these activities gave great meaning to his life. Joe will be dearly missed by the community, by his friends, and by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “The Joe Pashak Memorial Garden”, cheques made out to District of Port Hardy, Box 68, Port Hardy, B.C.
