In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Papa and Big Papa Joseph Varga at the age of 82. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Edith Varga.
He is survived by and will be forever missed by his children Joe (Rhonda) Varga, Brenda (Jim) Short, his grandchildren Tristan, Brandi, Shayna, Cheyanne, Johnathan, and Allison as well as his great grandchildren, Keandra, Joseph, Hayden, Jacobi, Remington, Mason, and Forrest.
Joe was born January 11, 1939 in Hungary and escaped the country when he was 16 during the revolution. He first arrived in England and then continued to Abbotsford finding work as a farm hand.
Joe met the love of his life Edith in Vancouver in 1960 and began his career in the logging industry doing various jobs and then moving on to his career as a logging truck driver. This would bring the couple to Vancouver Island where they would live in Port Alberni, Honeymoon Bay, Kokish and then finally Port McNeill.
Joe worked for various companies as a logging truck driver including Crown Zellerbach, MacMillan Bloedel, Western, and Lemare Lake and always enjoyed his job.
Joe and Edith were married January 1962 and raised two children largely in the Kokish logging camp where they were well known. Many fond memories were made during those years of friends, family, and many parties so large that they required moving all the furniture out of the room.
Joe was very generous with his time, he always had time to have a chat or give you a hand and served many years in the Lions. He joined the Lions in October of 1973 and served tirelessly in many positions such as local Club President,Vice President, Director, Hall Chairman, and Zone Chairman.
Whenever or wherever he was needed he was there. He enjoyed this charitable work greatly.
Joe was known for his love of all things outdoors, he loved to fish, hunt, and camp. He spent many happy hours camping at Bonanza and Victoria lakes.
He will always be remembered for his booming voice, infectious laugh, work ethic, years of charitable service, and his love for his friends, family, and his scotch.
