Samuel Robert Higginson

Higginson, Samuel Robert passed away peacefully at approximately 7 pm on Friday, June 15th, 2007 at the Port McNeill hospital at the age of 79. Sam is survived by and will be lovingly missed by Louise, his wife of more than 55 years, his sons Larry, Jerry, Ray, and Glen and 16 grand children and 8 great grand children. He is also survived by two sisters Annabel, Diana, and brother Jim. In 1958 when their mother perished in a car accident, Sam and Louise took in Jim and Diana and raised them with their own family. Sam graduated from UBC in 1952 as a Forestry Engineer, and pursued a very successful career in the logging industry retiring from Doman Industries as Vice President of Woodlands in 1991. He and his wife Louise were always entertaining many friends and relatives with his button accordion playing, singing and yodeling, accompanied by Louise on her guitar. He instilled in his sons and others his very competitive style and his strong sense of fair play. He will always be known and missed for his love of life and great sense of humour. Sam’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23 at the Lions Hall in Port McNeill, at 1:30 pm. Refreshments will be served following the memorial, in which friends and family will be encouraged to share their many happy memories of this remarkable family man.
