October 1, 1958-July 13, 2008

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of

Stephen Cowan, our beloved husband, son, nephew, cousin, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend.

His departure is a huge loss to us all.

Steve was born in Cowansville, Quebec and grew up in nearby Sutton where he spent his school years. He moved to Port Hardy in 1979 where he built a second family made up of many friends. He began working for Port Hardy Ready Mix, then subsequently worked as a deckhand on the Lamplighter, as a painter at EJ Klassen for many years,

and most recently at Port McNeill Autobody.

Among his many hobbies, Steve loved bike riding, building trails, working on cars, fishing, photography, and woodworking. He had a great love of music and fondly recalled time spent operating the lights for his friends in the band Airborne. Steve was an animal lover who especially enjoyed spending time with his cherished cats Harvey, Norman, and Scout.

He is survived and will be sorely missed by his loving wife,

Dee-Anne, of Port Hardy; mother, Shirley, of Sutton, Quebec; aunt, Jean de la Mare (Roger), of Quebec; aunt, Shirley Dyer (late Wint), of PEI; uncle, Wally Holden (late Gwen), of BC; father-in-law, Roy Elderkin; sister-in-law, Christine Wigard (Gunnar); brother-in-law, Kevin Elderkin; nieces, Melanie, Nicole, Danielle, and Joelle Wigard; and many cousins too numerous to name.

He is predeceased by his father Dennis.

Steve touched many lives and will be affectionately remembered for his friendly nature, sense of humour and willingness to lend a hand. A service will take place in Port Hardy. Announcement to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Port Hardy Hospital in his memory would be appreciated.
