Violet Daly (nee Cummings)

Our wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother left us shortly after midnight on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 in the company and thoughts of those she loved.
Violet is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Robert (Hugh); daughters Marlene and Pat (Glen); grandchildren: Brian (Diane), Bradley (Cori), Robert (Sandra), Paula, Graham (Barb), Cameron (Amber) and Jessica (Troy). Great grandchildren, Catherine, Brandon, Aaron, Amy, Tristin, Tyson, Dillon, Megan, Kristen, Noah, Cassidy and Ava. Her daughter Beverly Jean Stewart predeceases her.
Violet was born in the family home in Wildwood, Powell River, BC. She was the second daughter of David and Violet Cummings and had five siblings. Violet has one surviving sister, Eileen Patrick.
Powell River is where she met and fell in love and married her soul mate Hugh. The only time she was separated from Hugh was during WWII while Hugh was sent overseas. She kept herself busy waiting for Hugh to come home by writing him daily letters, working in the Powell River Mill and tending to new baby Marlene.
Violet went to work as a nurses aid at the old Powell River General Hospital and retired after 22 years. Her nurturing personality suited her vocation.
Violet and Hugh were very active in Square Dancing both in Powell River and Nanaimo and made the yearly trip to the Square Dance Jamboree held in Penticton.
Retirement was spent entertaining grandchildren, traveling in their motor home and flying or cruising to warmer climates.
The family would like to thank each and every staff member at Eagle Ridge Manor in Port Hardy, where Violet has resided since 2000 battling Alzheimer’s with the same panache that she lived her life.
A celebration of Violet’s life will be held at 2:00pm at the United/Anglican Church in Port Hardy on Saturday, April 23, 2005.
