Daniel Hovey captured the 25-lap main event Saturday evening at Tri-Port Speedway, setting the stage for today's second stage of the 2011 Dust Bowl trophy challenge.
Today's Dust Bowl races will begin with time-ins at 7 p.m. The event had been scheduled for 1 p.m., but drivers and organizers met before Saturday's racing and agreed to move it to the evening to avoid a conflict with Round 4 of the Vancouver Island Motocross Association Fall Season, which takes place at 7 Mile Track between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
"We didn't want to run at the same time as the motocross races," Tri-Port pit chief Carla Reusch said. "We didn't want to make the fans have to choose, or miss their racing."
Hovey, whose car got stronger as the evening progressed in Saturday's points series event, also won the second heat race. Glen Day won the first heat, and season points leader Justin Reusch claimed the trophy dash.
Full coverage of all the weekend's racing action will appear in Thursday's Gazette print edition.
