New-look track hosts motocross races

New covered starting area and longer course will greet pro and amateur riders in Vancouver Island Motocross Association spring series event at 7 Mile Track.

A new-look 7 Mile Motocross Track will greet race fans this weekend as the Tri Port Motorbike and ATV Club hosts Rounds 6 and 7 of the Vancouver Island Motocross Association's spring racing series.

Brightly coloured starting gates and a new roof adorn the starting area, from which riders will shoot into a longer, uphill run into the new hole shot. New jumps and longer straightaways have also been added, which extends the full lap to more than two kilometres.

Many pro riders are expected to take advantage of the new features in the races, which are also qualifiers for the Western Canadian Amateur Nationals June 29-July 2 in Raymond, Alberta.

Tickets for each race session are available at the gate and are $10 for adults and $5 for youths 15-under. Kids under 5 are free, and family passes are available for $25.

Racing will start at 10 a.m. each day, and practice rides will be held Friday.
