After an usually snowy winter, golf season has finally arrived at the Seven Hills Golf &Country Club, and there are plenty of tournaments and activities already penciled in for 2017.

The Seven Hills golf course was officially built in 1981, opened for play in 1983, and is a legitimate challenge for any golfer, no matter the skill level. Measuring 6,300 yards from the blue tees, with smooth fairways and thick forest that lines most of the holes, the course demands accuracy to keep the ball in play. There are water hazards and sand traps that will eat your errant shots for breakfast, and wildlife can often be seen during a round of 18 holes.

Manager Sharon Schraud said the club already has seven tournaments planned, which are listed as follows:

First round of the Spring Handicap, April 2;

Second round of the Spring Handicap, April 9;

Annual General Meeting (AGM) golf tournament, April 30;

Al Petrie Tournament, May 27;

Loggers Golf Tournament, June 17-18;

Cops for Cancer Tournament, Aug. 22; and

Mens Open, Sept. 9-10.

“We’re also planning on doing some club tournaments to raise money for little projects around the course,” said Schraud. “We’ve got a lot of private events going on as well, like weddings and dinners.”

Now that the season has officially started, with weather permitting, the course opens up for play at 8 a.m. and the gate will be closed at 7 p.m.

Golf pro Tyler Halls will also be back this year with spring session golf lessons on April 5 for juniors and adults. Contact Seven Hills to register.

Schraud said this year at the AGM tournament, they will be electing two new directors to the board.

She said she hasn’t heard anything about who might get elected this year, but once it gets closer to the AGM there will be more information floating around.

When asked about who will be running the pro-shop after the passing of longtime employee Clay Jones, Schraud said “we’re in the process of sorting it all out. We’ve got a lot to do now, but Clay’s certainly going to be missed.”

So far, the club has 49 members to start the 2017 season.

“We’re right where we were at this time last year,” said Schraud, who added memberships are due April 1, and they do have a payment plan for members where all dues have to be paid up by June 30.

Schraud said she wants people to “come out and have fun,” and enjoy the golf course as much as possible this season.
